RESPONSIBILITIES
Comply with Shell HSSE standards and lifesaving rules.
Lead Root Cause investigations into failures of supplier tools, equipment and/or services that occur during Drilling operations on Shell Deepwater wells.
Act as a representative of Shell in supplier facilities helping to plan the inspection, testing and disassembly of tools/equipment as part of an RCFA investigation into their failure during Deepwater Drilling operations. Witness the execution of the investigation plan.
Review RCFA investigation reports to ensure that true systemic root causes are identified, and that appropriate corrective and/or preventive actions are developed that effectively address the identified root causes of the failure.
Propose modifications to Wells governing processes and documents based on identified root causes and learnings resulting from NPT events investigation activies.
Communicate proactively with the Shell stakeholders via meetings, email, phone and written reports per the Wells Operations Reporting Manual and associated documents.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Using a formal RCFA process, lead and/or facilitate failure investigations as specified in Shell's Operations Reporting Manual and associated documents.
Use consultancy package to record activities resulting from RCFA technical consultancy activities.
Witness and represent Shell concerns/interests at Supplier locations during incoming testing, disassembly and inspection activities following tool/equipment failures.
Document and communicate recommendations for improvement of Wells processes and RCFA protocols.
Communicate, verbally and in writing, the results of investigation activities and findings with stakeholders as identified in the Global Failure Response Matrix.
o A timely written RCFA startup notification is required to be sent to stakeholders identified in the Global Failure Response Matrix.
o A timely written Investigation Update (teardown) report is required following the inspection, testing and disassembly of failed supplier tools and equipment.
o For long running investigations other Investigation Update reports may be required to keep stakeholders informed of the investigations progress.
o A timely final report will be written using the approved RCFA report template covering as a minimum: an executive summary, a discussion of the failure, a discussion of the analysis identifying general findings, immediate causes, root causes and other conclusions, and a Corrective/Preventive Action Plan (CAPAP) that addresses all identified root causes.
o A timely Technical Lessons Learned Notification (TLLN) shall be written using the approved TLLN template after approval is obtained for the final report.
Interface between Suppliers/Vendors, Shell Contracts and Procurement, Shell Quality Engineers, Subject Matter Experts, Shell Wells Drilling Engineers, Shell Operations and Shell Management, keeping all informed of the progress of investigations and obtaining required approvals for Final RCFA Reports.
Store various data, investigation evidence and other data in SharePoint and in Shell's EDM databases.
Prepare notices/cautions and key investigation updates for the quarterly RCFA Awareness Bulletins, which are directed at well delivery teams to reduce frequency and cost of repeat failures.
Document and communicate RCFA lessons learned as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
General
o Strong written and oral communication skills in fluent English with both individuals and groups.
o Able to use computer and programs (email, word processing and spreadsheets as a minimum) for general business and reporting applications.
o Exhibit a courteous and professional attitude towards Shell and vendors / contractors showing enthusiasm, dedication and teamwork.
o Willing to travel occasionally both in and out of town if required.
Education and Training
o 4-year engineering or technical degree (at least 20 years of oil field experience with Drilling, completion and Well Intervention tools and equipment may be substituted.)
o Training in a formal RCFA process such as TapToot, Causal Learning or similar methodologies.
o Training in API specifications Q1 and Q2 by API certified instructors is a plus, but not required.
Experience
o At least 3 years of experience in failure analysis using a formal RCFA process.
o A minimum of 10 years of experience in Oil and Gas with emphasis in Completions and Well Interventions equipment (Reliability, Operational Excellence, Quality and continuous improvement preferred).
o 5 years of experience with Field Service Companies and / or upstream operations
o Familiarity with Deepwater Drilling tool/equipment design, quality/reliability and maintenance and/or failure investigation.
o Deepwater work experience is a plus, but not required.
o At least 2 years of hands on support to Quality Management Systems development and / or implementation.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
